Lights for Liberty
ICE Detention Center Portland
July 12, 2019
Here are photos of the Lights for Liberty vigil at the ICE Detention Center in Portland, Oregon on July 12, 2019. My dear friends Yvonne Mancini and Jim Moody participated. Yvonne took these wonderful photos.
Yvonne says: "Tonight's candle light protest at Portland's ICE detention center. Shut them Down!!!"
Jim wrote: "It was a moving demonstration, full of quiet anger and a sense of resolution. It gave me hope that at least some Americans still have a sense of right and wrong. Now let's do something About it. Rise! Resist!"

July 12, 2019: Lights for Liberty
On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps, brought thousands of people to over 800 locations worldwide as well as to concentration camps across the country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by migrants.
Key events were in El Paso, Texas, where migrants are being housed in outdoor conditions under a bridge with no running water for months at a time; Homestead, FL, at a migrant child detention facility that has caused mass abuse and neglect; in San Diego, near the point of entry site from Tijuana; in New York City, at Foley Square, where hundreds of migrants are processed through detention a day; and in Washington, DC, in Lafayette Park, to demand action from Congress to end concentration camps and impeach the President. Legislators, activists, organizers, and members of impacted communities will speak prior to the candlelight vigil.
People participated in on-site protests or with friends or alone at home.
